The Ogri Rally 2002

On Friday 23rd August We set off for the Ogri rally in dribs and drabs - many of the club were able to leave early as the lucky sods had the Friday off work. The rest of us met up at 7pm at the little chef in fenny stratford (as always!) and set off shortly after for the rally. The run there seemed to last forever as the rally ground is in the middle of nowhere somewhere vaguely near Bristol.

When I got there I was surprised by the rally ground, as not having been to Ogri MCC rallies before I had not expected to be camping in the middle of an air base!

We wandered aroung in the dark for a while until we found the rest of the club and then setup our tents and headed for the entertainment and stalls. The bands for the evening were good and there were lots of different stalls to wander round including an excellent army gear stall. The catering was very well arranged with plenty of choice for everone including vegetarians. The bar and baguette stand ran on tokens purchased in the entertainments tent which saved everyone from juggling spare change when they wanted beer and food. The beer was good andcheap at £1.50 a pint.

The next morning we awoke to glorious weather which lasted the whole day. We had breakfast in the main catering tent which was a nice change as it offered a full vegetarian breakfast. After this we returned to our camping area where we all relaxed in the sun for a while. The silly games started about midday and were really enjoyable. Ogri MCC's little C90 took quite a bashing in the jousting event where a makeshift sidecar made from a plastic chair and some scrap wood was atttatched to it and teams took turns to ride it with the person in the sidecar blindfolded and waving a broom pole around to hit bottled over with. This event was great fun and several people manager to roll the combo over on the corners! The other events included tug-of-war and the very popular - hit people with bags and knock them in the water game. Ogri MCC had also arranged for plane flights and balloon rides to run all day for those of us brave enough to want to go.

The bike show was very good with a nice variety of bikes turning up, the jet trike also ran several demonstrations throughout the day which could be spotted by the huge cloud the thing produced. Mid-afternoon we were all treated to a display by a Hawker Hunter jet doing low fly bys and stunts. At about 5pm when we all started to get hungry we headed to a local pub for a very enjoyable dinner. In the evening we all headed to the entertainments tent again for another set of good bands.

The next morning the good weather had vanished and we were fighting windy conditions and biting cold to packup our stuff and head for home.

Overall Ogri MCC put on an excellent rally with good food, good loo's and plenty of entertainment.
Thanks Ogri MCC and see you again next year!
